I had the February blahs in 1999, and decided to finally use up some of
that yummy oddball yarn I'd bought on sale at various times and put them
all together into my most favourite project - socks!
Mohair yarn - one 50g ball each of purple, pink and teal
Cotton dk yarn - one 50g ball lilac
Wool eyelash yarn - one 50g ball each of taupe and grey
Metallic embroidery floss - 1 card each rose and bluebird
Set of 4 dpn's in appropriate size
Gauge - who can tell? ;)
With purple, cast on 36 sts 12/12/12 and knit 5 rounds.
With pink, working rose metallic floss along with it, k 5 rounds.
With grey eyelash, purl 5 rounds.
With teal, working blue metallic floss along with it, k 5 rounds.
With purple, k 5 rounds.
With taupe eyelash yarn, purl 5 rounds.
With pink, k 5 rounds.
With teal, k 5 rounds.
With purple, purl 5 rounds.
Heel flap: With one strand of pink mohair and one strand of lilac
cotton dk, K 9, place last 3 sts onto 2nd needle, turn.
Slip one st, purl 18 sts, slip last 3 sts onto other end of 2nd needle,
turn.
*Slip 1, knit *, repeat to end of needle, turn.
Slip first st, purl across needle, turn.
Repeat these last two rows 24 times altogether, ending ready to work
right side row.
Turn heel: Work in slip stitch pattern as established on first 11 sts,
knit next two sts together, turn.
Slip first st, purl next 4 sts, purl next 2 sts together, turn.
Work slip stitch pattern on first 5 sts, k2tog, turn.
Repeat these last two rows til 6 sts remain on needle, ending ready to
work right side row.
Break yarns.
With teal, knit across first 6 sts, then pick up 15 sts along side of
heel flap.
With next needle, pick up one st in space between needles, knit across
2nd needle, pick up one st in space between needles.
With next needle, pick up 15 sts along other side of heel flap, then
knit first 3 sts from next needle on same needle. 18/20/18
Knit across first needle, on 2nd needle k2tog, knit to within last 2
sts, k2tog, knit across last needle. 18/18/18
Knit to within last 3 sts on first needle, k2tog, k1. Knit across
second needle. On last needle, k1, ssk, knit to end of needle.
Knit one round plain.
Repeat these last two rounds til a total of 6 rounds of teal have been
worked.
Continue decreasing in the above manner til 42 sts on needles, changing
colours as follows. 12/18/12
Knit next 6 rounds with purple.
Knit next 6 rounds with pink.
Purl next 6 rounds with purple.
Knit next 6 rounds with teal.
Purl next 6 rounds with pink.
Knit next 6 rounds with teal.
Knit next 6 rounds with purple.
Shape Toe: Using pink mohair and lilac cotton held together, knit 11
sts onto first needle, knit 21 sts onto second needle, knit 10 sts onto
third needle.
On first needle k8, k2tog, k1. Second needle, k1, ssk, knit to within
last 3 sts of needle, k2tog, k1. On third needle k1, ssk, knit to end of
needle. 10/19/9
Knit one round plain.
Repeat these last two rounds til 10 sts left on needles. 3/5/2
DO NOT knit one round plain.
Break yarns and close toe.
You can get a similar effect by using any fancy yarns.
I didn't use eyelash yarn on the foot of the sock, thinking it may be
uncomfortable to wear, or it would be a waste, and ridiculous looking, if
the eyelashes all wore off.
