Purple and Grey Striped Socks

Another striped sock. No worries about the colour jog with this pair. Colour change rows are done in a slip stitch pattern and it blends right in.

[Purple and Grey Socks]

  1. Cast on 36 with grey (12/12/12)
  2. Work 12 rounds k2 p2 rib
  3. With purple, k3 *m1, k6* to end of round, ending k3 - 42 sts total
  4. Knit 5 more rounds plain in purple
  5. With grey, *slip 1, k1* to end of round
  6. Knit 5 more rounds with grey - grey stripe completed
  7. With purple, *slip 1, k1* to end of round
  8. Knit 5 more rounds with purple - purple stripe completed
  9. Work one more grey stripe, then one more purple stripe
  10. Heel flap - With grey, *k1 slip1* for 13 sts, turn. Place extra st on second (instep) needle.
  11. Purl for 13 sts, *slip 1, p1* for 12 sts, turn. Place extra sts on second (instep needle).
  12. On these 25 sts, knit one row, turn, purl one row, turn, knit one row, turn, purl one row, turn.
  13. With purple, slip 2 sts, *k1, slip 1*, repeat to end of row, ending with k1.
  14. Work five more rows in plain stocking stitch - purple heel flap stripe completed.
  15. With grey, slip 2 sts, *k1, slip 1*, repeat to end of row.
  16. Work five more rows in plain stocking stitch - grey heel flap stripe completed.
  17. Work one more purple and one more grey heel flap stripe, end right side facing - 4 stripes on heel flap.
  18. With grey, slip 1, k7, slip 1, work the next 7 sts in pattern with grey (*k1, slip 1*), k2tog, turn.
  19. Slip 1, p7, p2tog, turn.
  20. Slip 1, k7, k2tog, turn.
  21. Slip 1, p7, p2tog, turn.
  22. Work these last two rows once more.
  23. With purple, slip 1, work the next 7 sts in pattern (*k1, slip 1), k2tog, turn.
  24. Slip 1, p7, p2tog, turn.
  25. Slip 1, k7, k2tog, turn.
  26. Slip 1, p7, p2tog, turn.
  27. Work these last two rows once more.
  28. Using grey, work same as for first four purple rows (directly above), ending right side facing. You should have nine sts on your needle.
  29. Continuing with grey, k3, k2tog, k4. Onto same needle, pick up 13 sts along side of heel flap. With next needle, pick up a st between first and second needle, *slip 1, k1* across second needle, pick up a st between second and third needle. Pick up 14 sts along other side of heel flap. Knit 4 sts from first needle onto third needle - 17/19/18
  30. Knit across first needle. On second needle, k2tog, knit across, knit last 2 sts together. On third needle knit across. Move one st from second needle to first needle - 18/16/18
  31. First needle K12, k2tog, k4. Knit across second needle. K4, k2tog tbl (or ssk), k12 on third needle.
  32. Knit one round plain.
  33. First needle K11, k2tog, k4. Knit across second needle. K4, k2tog tbl (or ssk), k11 on third needle.
  34. Knit one round plain.
  35. *With purple, *slip 1, k1* to end of round.
  36. Knit one round plain.
  37. First needle k10 , k2tog, k4. *K1, slip 1* across second needle. K4, k2tog tbl (or ssk), k10 on third needle.
  38. Knit one round plain.
  39. First needle K9, k2tog, k4. Knit across second needle. K4, k2tog tbl (or ssk), k9 on third needle - 14/16/14.
  40. Knit one round plain.
  41. With grey, *k1, slip 1* to end of round.
  42. Knit 5 more rounds plain.
  43. With purple, *k1, slip 1* to end of round.
  44. Knit 5 more rounds plain.
  45. Repeat these last 12 rows until you're about 1 inch short of foot length, ready to work a plain round (NOT a colour change / slip stitch round). Rearrange sts to 11/22/11.
  46. Continue in stripe pattern established (changing colours as needed). Work the decrease round only on rounds which are NOT the first round of a colour change.
  47. Decrease round - On first needle knit to within last 3 sts, k2tog, knit last st. On next needle, k1, k2tog tbl (or ssk), knit to within last 3 sts, k2tog, knit last st. On last needle, k1, k2tog tbl (or ssk), knit last st.
  48. Continue decreasing on all non colour change rounds until 20 sts remain - 5/10/5. Knit 5 sts from first needle onto third needle. Break yarn and graft toe.
